Upon witnessing my diet and other health-related choices that I make, I have heard people say they would rather enjoy their lives by eating and doing as they please. I guess the insinuation is that healthier choices lead to a longer and less enjoyable life, while drinking and eating whatever you want leads to a shorter but wilder and better life. I disagree.
Jack LaLanne passed away at 96 years old. He swam, strength trained, and enjoyed waking up to a fit body everyday until the end. On the other hand, I know of people in their 20s who indulge in all of their temptations, yet experience unnecessary stressors like joint pains, obesity, and diseases of various organs. I know of people in their 40s who can’t play with their dogs, participate in their favorite sports, or even go for long walks on nice days…they have too many health limitations. According to those people, those activities are only for the young. Again, I disagree.
I believe that we are mostly products of how we train and feed our bodies. If we want positive changes to our bodies, we must take positive actions. Age is no excuse for not being able to enjoy your favorite activities. These are things that you should enjoy every day that you live.
I want to make something clear about my intentions: I don’t want your money. I have nothing tangible to sell you. I also don’t want you to read this site as a gateway into buying my services as a personal trainer – you probably don't live close enough to work with me. My objective is to spread scientific truth and encourage thoughts outside of the dogmas of nutrition and exercise that we have been brainwashed with. My other objective is to change these dogmas.
We live in a backwards society where the same cliché advice is recycled constantly, yet it doesn’t work. We discourage people from eating real foods because they have dietary fat and cholesterol, yet spread the belief that health comes in low calorie, packaged, and processed foods. Diets are made up of too many vegetable fats and nutrient-less foods. The government recommends consuming more milk and grains than vegetables - I have never found a person who believes that grains and milk are healthier choices than vegetables. There is also a widespread belief that we need to participate in a high quantity of moderate intensity activity. However, only brief amounts of highly intense activity will effectively address age-related issues of decreasing metabolism, bone density, strength, and fast twitch muscle fiber atrophy. There’s no amount of jogging or playing sports that will reverse those problems. High intensity exercise also provides the best cardiovascular improvement, and it does so in significantly less time than moderate intensity activity.
My hope is to help you continue to enjoy daily life, continue to partake in the activities you love, regardless of age, and to remain as healthy as possible. I will continue to do this through Health-Actualization, my work as a personal trainer, and in the future as an exercise physiologist (education in progress). I will not stand for the myths that are being spread as truths that aren’t helping to improve the quality of people’s lives. I will see to it that things change.
Your comments and feedback are always welcome. Thanks for reading.
Yours truly,
